For many years I have visualised the things I would like in my life, both personal and professional. I have managed to grow my charity school in Zambia as well, all with the power of visualisation!.
I felt guided to share this with you, what does it mean and how can you achieve the things that you hope for.....
Visualisation is the process of forming a mental image of something that is not in our field of vision. You can visualise something from the past, present, or future. It's like a mental rehearsal where you picture yourself succeeding, releasing a limiting belief or past trauma, achieving your goals, and living the life you desire. This technique harnesses the power of your mind to turn your visions into reality.
Did you know your brain can't define the difference between your reality and your thoughts, I learnt this in my hypnotherapy training. If an anxiety sufferer is experiencing an anxious situation or imaging it, they will experience a stress response in the same way.
It's like a mental rehearsal where you picture yourself succeeding, releasing a limiting belief or past trauma, achieving your goals, and living the life you desire. This technique harnesses the power of your mind to turn your visions into reality.
Past: Visualising past successes can boost your confidence and remind you of your capabilities. Recall a time when you overcame a challenge or achieved something significant. See it clearly in your mind, feel the emotions of that moment, and let it reinforce your belief in your abilities.
Present: Use visualisation to enhance your current experiences. Imagine yourself handling a present situation with grace and efficiency. Whether it’s acing a presentation at work or staying calm during a stressful situation, visualising a positive outcome can improve your performance.
Future: This is where visualisation truly shines. Picture your future goals as if they have already been achieved. Visualise every detail, what you see, hear, and feel. This creates a mental blueprint that guides your actions and decisions towards making those goals a reality.
Emotional vs. Rational thinking
The conscious mind is often linked to rational thinking and intelligence. It uses logic and analysis to solve problems and make decisions. However, it’s also prone to overthinking and doubt, which can hinder progress. The subconscious mind, on the other hand, is deeply tied to emotions and intuition. It operates on autopilot, using ingrained patterns and beliefs to influence your behaviour.
This part of the brain is where visualisation works its magic. By feeding your subconscious positive and detailed images of your goals, you can reprogram it to align your actions and beliefs with those goals. It’s aware of the input from all your senses every moment.
This part of your mind sees a complete picture of everything happening all at once. It’s aware of the input from all your senses every moment. Every inch of your skin is sending it information right now, but for the most part, your conscious mind only becomes aware of it if something needs its attention, like pain, which alerts the conscious mind to a potential danger.
Creating cells of recognition
When you visualise a goal, you're essentially creating "cells of recognition" in your brain. These cells are neural patterns that, through repetition, become fixed in your psyche. The more you visualise a particular outcome, the more these cells are reinforced, making your subconscious mind more attuned to recognising opportunities and taking actions that align with your goals
How to Visualise
Affirmation or power word visualisations
Affirmations are positive statements that help you overcome negative thoughts and self-doubt. When you pair affirmations with visualisation, you reinforce these positive beliefs in your subconscious mind.
Example: If you want to boost your confidence, you might use an affirmation like, "I am confident and capable." As you repeat this affirmation, visualise yourself in situations where you feel confident and successful. See yourself speaking clearly and assertively, achieving your goals, and receiving positive feedback from others.
Image visualisations
Image visualisations involve creating mental pictures of your goals. This technique is powerful because our brains process visual information more effectively than words. Vision boards are a popular method for image visualisation.
Patience: trusting the process
Let’s face it, patience isn’t the easiest thing in the world and it is something I struggle with. But when it comes to visualising your dreams, it’s super important. Trust that everything is happening at just the right speed. When you relax and go with the flow, you’ll be amazed at how things start falling into place in the most magical ways. Give yourself the freedom to move at your own pace. Every little step forward, no matter how tiny, is a win. So take it easy on yourself, enjoy the ride, and watch how your dreams unfold!.
